My name is Bert Lempens. I started my education with a master's degree in "Communication and Multimedia Design" at the Media and Design Academy, located in Genk. Here, we were trained in the various aspects of multimedia and new media. Some of these courses included communication, marketing, audio-visual techniques and web development. In one course, we were introduced to 3D techniques and it never let me go. I was also very intrigued by computer games. The subject of my master's thesis was a combination of both gaming and new media. It's focus was on usability and playability of 3D shooters using multitouch on the iPhone.

After that, I started a second academic career. But this time it was a master's degree in "Game and Digital Design". This gave me a perfect opportunity to continue evolving my skills in 3D design. The assignments we got here mainly focused on conceptualizing games. We had to design and create characters, build environments, think about gameplay and even writing scripts. In my master's thesis I focussed on the development of next-gen game assets. By using a combination of Maya and Zbrush, I tried to create detailed assets to use in a game engine.
